Ms Mud

I don't know much about watercolor but I think I just discovered what mud is and this is definitely it.  It took a while to learn how to use the markers so I guess less then a week on watercolor is just not enough practice huh?

I should call her splatter instead, but a very relaxed splatter.  8" x 8" watercolor on paper.

Sleepy Head

Watercolor #4 is Flickr inspired.  There's actually a group pool for photos of sleeping cats.  That's where I found Bao Bao.  His human is babykailan.  Go for a visit and see some adorable kitties.

   

Watercolor # 3.  Not exactly on a roll but it's progress. 

She's 8"x8" and will be on my Etsy shop in just a few minutes.  I have a feeling I'll be doing lots of painting this weekend.  And working on my Etsy shop.

   

Another Jane

Jane on the West Coast -  I love her great drawings and journals.  And she posts her students work as well.  I doubt if I could draw better then some of those. I really like her drawings of quilts.  And I really love that photo of Buddy, her orange cat.  He reminds me of Leo.  In fact, when I first brought Leo home I actually called him Buddy before finally deciding on Leo.

And she gave me the nicest compliment - she said my drawings were rambunctious.  Wasn't that sweet?

Vivian

Watercolor #2 - Vivian is 8"x8", mixed media I guess since I used markers for the blue around her.  And I really surprised myself.  I didn't think I'd like it this much.  Mostly because I thought I wouldn't be able to use the pen.  It's working out ok - lots of potential with drawing on a wet surface. 

 

I used Daler-Rowney aqua fine paint.  Art store is having a sale this weekend so I might pick up a better quality paint.  And I used a nexus pen because the ink is very dark and feathers out alot on the wet paint.  For the flesh tone I used Liquitext concentrated artist color acrylic Pale Portrait Pink which I watered down.

And Vivian is SOLD.

The hair was fun to do but I think it might have drowned out the drawing alittle.

Wahoo Update

I can't believe it but Wahoo sold on Etsy.  I just received the note.  My first official watercolor and it sold the first day.  I really didn't think it would sell so fast or at all really.  I'm going home tonight and paint.  And I think that's called greed.

This is my first watercolor.  I'm not counting that piece I did on cardstock that 2yrs ago that still hasn't stopped curling.  So yes, my very first watercolor.  And to my surprise, I think I might like it.  I didn't think it would be this bright.  I used those little waterbrush pens on 140lb Cartiera Magnani off white cold pressed paper.  And it didn't curl at all. I used markers for some highlights like the pink around the foot and that pale blue around the whole dog.  It was drawn with a nexus black pen.  Then I redrew some lines onto the wet paint so it would smear.

And this is dedicated to Linda who once upon a time when I just slightly mentioned I might try watercolor someday sent me a package of samples of paper and paint.

And this is going into my Etsy shop.  Oh and it's 8"x8".  What a kick it would be if some actually bought my first watercolor.

Update: And yes it was a kick because Wahoo SOLD the same day I put him on Etsy.
