Little Kit

I 've been asked by a friend if I could do some block print greeting cards.  They're for her father in law who has a much loved cat.  I said I'd give it a try with no obligation to buy if they didn't turn out ok.  I think I'll do about 10 of them thinking that 4 or 5 will be good enough.  And by the time I finish 10 I might know how to print them.  Kit is the first and 4"x6". 

I have a plan (really and it doesn't happen often).  I want to keep them very simple (easier to print I think) and stylized.  Kit isn't that yet but she is the first.  Actually the 2nd, the one from yesterday is the first but it's 6"x8" and too big for a card.

My Zoe

This Zoe is dedicated to Belinda's Zoe.  Belinda had to make a hard decision today.

I decided to accumulate some carvings before I try printing again.  I might know more about printing by then and I won't waste the ink.  This is shina from McClain's.  It's cheaper then lino. I bought 6"x8".  To give you an idea - 4"x6" is $1.46. Buy 12 and you get 5% off.  Of course they charge $12 for shipping so it's best to buy more.  Lino same size is $6.45.  Big difference.  I think lino probably lasts longer in terms of how many times you can use it to print.

As for color, I bought akuaKolor which I think (maybe) you can use out of the bottle.  Not sure how since it's very thin and very different from the speedball ink.  I'm also going to try watercolor from the tube.  And this only took about 20 min to carve.

Pink Teapot.....

I like pink and I like tea so hee's a Pink Teapot on a round table with stripes.  And I guess I'll never move away from markers entirely.  Why?  I love 'em that's why.  Theyr'e so immediate and non messy.

The Lilly Print

Frustration city last night.  I tried using the akuaKolor ink but I didn't know what the hell I was doing and I didn't want to waste it - so back to speedball ink.  I used printing paper from Dick Blick.  Very inexpensive so it's good for practice.  I didn't press very hard with the barron because I wanted that scratchy look.  I almost threw this out I was so angry at myself for not being able to use the color ink.  Glad I didn't.  Lilly looks alot better to me this morning then it did last night.  I really like it now and I think the line worked.  I want to add more dots to balance it a little more and some more lines to the hair on the left and try printing it in different colors on better paper.

Yawing Baby Series

I recently sold several sets of postcards.  I just reposted the Yawning Baby Series set on Etsy.  Each postcard comes in a resealable clear envelope.  I can print a return address on each if you'd like.  They're on matte photo paper and 4"x6".  These are 2 of them.  Here they are on my Etsy shop.  The originals are also for sale but not on Etsy yet.
