Only post for tonight. I have to close the hurricane shutters and take all the plants and furniture in. We're getting the outside of Fay but 50 mph winds are the same if you call them a tropical storm or a hurricane. But meanwhile here are some pix of my living room redo work in progress.
The most uncomfortable sofa ever has finally found a new home. I searched everywhere, read all the sofa guides (addicted to Apartment Therapy). I wanted leather because of the pet issues and clean straight lines and metal legs. I finally went to the Macy's furniture store and there she was, sitting there in all her robin egg blue wonderfulness. Beautiful sofa isn't it? Yes, when will go if ever on sale? It's on sale. Oh, it's comfortable too. It's very comfortable. You think maybe you could come down a bit more? There's an additional 7% off. Oh? What if I open an account? Additional 10%. My sofa finally cost less then Ikea's Arlid. I'm in love! And really, it's just sooooo comfortable. You see the pillows? They're zippered to the back which is a few inches lower. Well if you just sit down, the back is nice and firm. But and this is so nice, the top of the back is soft. If you lean back, it gives. And unzipped, it's big enough to be a comfortable sleeper and it's 91" long. And I love it and I said that didn't I?
And that's my other big purchase - the CB2 arc lamp. Took 3 hours to put together because the arc wouldn't arc. It's has a dimmer too and diffuser thingee that fits on the bottom which tends to soften the light. The metal bookshelves are Ikea and contain my thrift store vases, snow globes and my plant cutting garden. I removed all the blinds and since I face the golf course I really don't have any neighbors. Those are 2 eams chairs which were a spur of the moment purchase which I sort of regret now. I really want a Modernica rocker with arms. I think I might try to sell these on ebay.
This is an old wicker rocker I just painted berry red. The coffee table above and pillows are thrift store/garage sale finds. The big green pillow (I bought 3) are from Pottery Barn and cost $2.00 each. I bought them for the down pillow inserts and will eventually make new covers for them. The white knitted throw is beautiful and perfect condition - $1.50. The little pillows are all needlepoint and 50 cents each. I love thrifting, yes I do. I have to redo the seat cover. It's an old red leather skirt I cut and pinned together.
Here's the 2 Ikea PS cabinets and guess what? Remotes don't go through metal. So I took the door of one of them and that has the cable box and dvd player. There's a hole in the bottom of the cabinets so the wires all fit in the other cabinet with the door. The cabinets aren't exactly level but Homer (the friend who is helping fix the apt) is going to move the cable outlet and electric plug to be in back of the TV so the cabinets can be attached to each other and then attached to the wall. The dining table and chairs are Ikea. I painted the chairs pink but I'm redoing them yellow. Behind that wall with the cabinets is the kitchen. There's an entrance to the kitchen from the entry to the apt on the left of the cabinets and from the dining room. On the right is the wall of windows that face the patio.
I wanted a few good things like the sofa and lamp and the rest can be a mixture of Ikea and thrift store finds. Things that can change when the mood strikes. Obviously, there's plenty to do here (artwork etc) but the bones of the apt are pretty solid now I think. As long as the bones are there, I can build anything I want around them.
