I took Gertie to the vet today. She hasn't been drinking or eating much. I fully expected to come home alone. But the vet said let's try one more time, that way you'll know you did everything you could. So I came home with Gert and syringes to force feed her and special food that smells something awful. I'm to give her 2 syringes full of food 3x a day and IV fluids everyday. If she doesn't start to drink and eat on her own then we get back to the vet on Friday and we say goodbye.
I've been saying goodbye to Gert for months now and she always seems to bounce back. But the vet said her kidneys are shutting down. I told the vet that it would be so much easier if she looked sick but she walks around with her tail up and follows me around the apt. She gets up (which is kind of hard for her) and meets at the door when I come home. She's there in the kitchen meowing for her food only she doesn't eat it.
Maybe she'll bounce back, she could.
Oh I am right there with you and Gert - my Zeke is not far behind, it is so hard to say goodbye.
