My Florida

I grew up in NY and moving to Florida was such a shock, a pleasant one but lots of things to get use to.  Everything was green, all the time and so clean.  It took me a bit to realize it was clean because there weren't any people walking around throwing their garbage on the ground.  Of course once you go to Ft Lauderdale or Miami you find all the people.

And then there are the birds, every size, everywhere.  So beautiful they take your breath away.  People who have cats know it's bad luck to move a sleeping cat.  Same for the flock of Ibis in the driveway or that Great Blue Heron that landed on my car roof.  I stood watching him (or her) for about 20 minutes until he noticed me and decided to take off.

The stupid stupid things that people do to get more money than they can ever spend.

I thought of Charles Harper when drawing these.  You don't have to draw every feather.

 

 
 

 

 

 
 

Bliss, This Way and That

Part of my Illustrated Guide to Quilts.  The last few zines have been hand colored.  That's an idea that has passed.  Way to time consuming.  And self publishing sites are way too expensive.  So for now my Illustrated Guides are just on line.  

I remember seeing hand carved printing blocks for fabric in Pier 1.  Of course, now I'm sorry for not buying them.  I thought of those when I was drawing this quilt.  Maybe some Kona cotton solids with simple lines printed in black.  And a striped border.  Quilted in the ditch with off white thread so it blends in.  No mitered corners this time.  I wasn't sure I could get them right with the striped fabric.  I didn't worry about squaring the quilt, nothing perfect.

Before and After Thrift

I bought this plant stand at a garage sales and painted it yesterday. It's my new landing strip at the apt entrance. I had 3 small bookcases there that just collected junk. So they're redistributed. I took down all the pictures and spent the afternoon plugging up all the holes in the wall. Haven't decided what pictures to hang yet.  

And the after. Pyrex bowl to hold my keys and I can just drop the mail on the shelf. Cookie jar kittie is from a newly discovered thrift store in Lake Work - Netties. And the lime wooden kitty is my doorstop. I had to explain to Violet that no matter how many times she jumped on and around the green kittie, she wasn't go to play with her. It took her awhile before she gave up and chased after Gracie.

See ya Bandit

My friend DBD said goodbye to Bandit tonight. I want to say poor little guy but really, he was with DBD for 16 months and he was one spoiled little dog. He had 16 months of bliss, all the food he wanted, all those cats to chase (poor cats), a queen size bed with fluffy pillows and he got to go outside in his stroller every night and a human to love him. Who could ask for more. Say hi to Gertie for me.
