Things I learned on my weekend painting project. Take heed, this is free advise. I had to earn it.
- Do not wear your favorite t shirt even if it is from goodwill. You will never get the paint out.
- Send the cats on a 3 day cruise because believe me you will not like each by the end of the weekend. Now this of course holds true if it's husband or wife or kids.
- Cats do not look good with blue tails. I may paint their inner colors but inner colors not are meant for the outer cat.
- It will always, always cost you more. In money, blood or time - probably all three
- Clean up is hell even if the nice man from home depot says it will wash up with water. They don't mention that your skin will wrinkle permanently under those plastic gloves and exposed skin will be raw from scrubbing the paint off.
- Only do a painting project if you plan on having a professional painter paint the whole apartment within a year.
- Paint will come off tile but not grout. Grout is far more receptive to paint than cat tails.
- Get plenty of sleep before you start because you won't sleep during or after.
- Not everyone is capable of every project no matter what Apartment Therapy says.
- Research should be done before you start the project not after it costs too much, there's paint in the grout, all over you and the cats and the home depot man turns away when he sees you coming down the aisle
With all that said, I really like how this came out. Only you're going need strong magnets, cheapie thin ones won't hold anything up no matter how many coats of this stuff you use. Next weekend project - hunt for the magnets.
And the frame is centered over the table. The pen holders aren't because they're centered over the drawing board which I haven't put back yet. It looks weird now but once everything on the table it won't be I think. Maybe I'll put a narrow picture on the other side of the frame to balance things. This feels like an endless project.
